If Torian Razner was taking bets on how her afternoon would go, “getting stranded on the nylarian homeworld” wasn’t even in the running. (Moss had it listed as Possibility #3,794, but no one asked for its opinion.) And yet, Verdaan’s surface is exactly where she finds herself, standing in a grassy field alongside (her definitely-not-girlfriend) Amelia Perrosk.

Torian didn’t ask for this, but she’s been needing a vacation—and she certainly won’t complain about forced proximity with Amelia. As they venture across an alien landscape in search of a way home, things heat up between them, and Torian can’t quite remember the reasons they shouldn’t be together.

Amelia can never forget, though. Before they were stranded, her quartermaster issued a warning: get back to their ship in three days, or Opula would tell their entire smuggling syndicate about Torian’s new, very unprotected human colony.
