Jennifer Shun

Both an indie and published author, Jen writes fiction and nonfiction, but also brings decades of marketing experience to the mix. A reader first, her love of historical, literary, and contemporary fiction keeps our homepage looking bookstore ready.

Every character has a backstory, here’s hers.

Paper or Kindle?

Paper always, I aspire to annotate.

Were you an avid reader as a child?

Yes, and my local library’s summer reading program was akin to perfection.

Favorite library find?

Sweet Valley High series as a middle grade reader.

Ideal reading spot?

Before bed, lamp light, and since you asked for “ideal,” my childhood eyes once again.

Current home?

San Diego, California.

Little stack of authors who’ve inspired you?

Andy Peloquin

Andy is the author of 45 fantasy titles (and counting). An accomplished indie author, he’s penned everything from copy to blogs, but it’s dark, twisty stories inhabited by complex characters navigating emotionally devastating plots that fuel his creativity.

Our fantasy/sci-fi genre expert, Andy is key to connecting our off-the-radar indie authors with new readers.

What’s the tallest hurdle you’ve faced as an indie author?

Cover selection! No seriously, promotion. Marketing is more than a full-time job that pushes every author further away from writing.

Always a writer?

Yes, but I didn’t try the pen at fantasy until my mid-twenties by way of a graphic novel.

You write from?

Vancouver, British Columbia.

Favorite reading season?

Snowy winters, warm summers. Both ideal – whether snowboarding with an audiobook or lakeside with a paperback.

Coffee, tea?

Coffee or maybe a yerba mate.

Do you fold the page?

Never, bookmark always.

Stack of books that have inspired your writing?

Marc Bachrach

Every great site needs a great tech person and with over 30 years of web experience, Marc runs the show. With a firm background in online marketing and advertising, he’s our in-house savant.

Ask him any question and if he doesn’t know the answer, he’ll find one - meanwhile, here are a few to get you started.

First city you called home?

New Orleans

But your current work desk is in…

California

Favorite fiction genre?

Horror

Ideal horror reading setup?

An airplane as it fits the theme at times. Honestly, spotty WIFI and no distractions, I can’t think of a better place to escape.

Any refreshments?

Water, preferably sparkling.

Bookmark or page folder?

Chastised page folder.
