Nyrnn Ashall is alone and running out of time. She begs the stonetych to carry her where she can find answers about the Stonebound threatening Nubrai and the power stirring inside her. It carries her to the ruins of another ancient city. For days she searches its broken streets, her hope unravelling as quickly as her strength.

Exhausted and ill, Nyrnn is found by a band of fighters. One offers help. He fastens a leather cuff with a glowing symbol to her wrist. As she travels with them, she glimpses Elyrion beyond the mist, a city where living gods rule by law, only to learn that the wynn are forbidden to enter. Then a thunderous voice stirs in her mind. It knows where she is.

Meanwhile, Gryff races across Draihan to save a dying friend. Nord is drawn once more towards the Great Mother. And in Midel, a ruthless queen marshals armies and seeks a weapon that could permanently shift the balance of power.
