Kathryn Stockett is an American novelist best known for The Help, her debut novel about Black maids working in white households in 1960s Jackson, Mississippi. The book became a major bestseller, spent more than 100 weeks on The New York Times list, and was later adapted into an acclaimed film. Before publishing fiction, she worked in magazine publishing and marketing in New York City. Her writing is closely tied to the social world and setting of her Mississippi upbringing.
