But nothing about this situation is as it seems. Someone arranged for Kealin to be here—a mysterious "friend" who ties back to the West when it was under the Blackmoon and the vampire wars raged. The Healer speaks in riddles about what Kealin truly is "beneath all this sickness," as if the cure will reveal something even Kealin doesn't know about himself.

And in the shadows beyond the swamp, others are watching. Waiting to see if Kealin survives his transformation. Waiting to claim what emerges—or destroy it before it can threaten them again.
