John E. Gardner (1926–2007) was a British author best known for continuing the James Bond series after the death of Ian Fleming. A prolific writer, Gardner authored 14 James Bond novels between 1981 and 1996, reviving the iconic character for a new generation of readers. Before his work on Bond, Gardner gained recognition for his "Boysie Oakes" spy novels and various crime thrillers. A former Anglican priest and stage magician, Gardner brought a unique perspective to his writing, blending suspense with a deep understanding of character development. His Bond novels were well-received for modernizing the character while maintaining Fleming's signature style.
