Edmund White (1940-2025) authored more than thirty works of fiction, memoir, and nonfiction. A pioneering figure in LGBTQ, he wrote with rare candor about gay identity, relationships, and sex. He received the PEN/Saul Bellow Award for Achievement in American Fiction and the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation. White, who joined Princeton University’s faculty in 1999 and transferred to emeritus status in 2018, lived in New York.
