Andrew Holleran (born 1944 as Eric Garber) is an American novelist, essayist, and short story writer, best known for his landmark debut Dancer from the Dance (1978), a seminal work of post-Stonewall gay literature. A member of the influential Violet Quill writers’ group, he is its only surviving member. Over his career, Holleran has written novels, essays, and stories that chronicle gay life with candor and lyricism. Born on the island of Aruba, he has lived in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Florida, and continues to publish under his pen name.
