Tove Jansson (1914-2001) was a successful Finnish writer, artist, and cartoonist most known for her comic strips and series of children's books featuring the hippopotamus-like Moomin characters. In addition to the Moomin books, Tove wrote novels and short stories during her career for both children and adults. She received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 1996 for her contribution as a children's writer.
