Sara Paretsky transformed crime fiction in 1982 with the debut of private investigator V. I. Warshawski, a groundbreaking heroine who helped redefine the genre. Her V. I. novels have earned major international awards and are published in more than thirty countries. Paretsky also founded Sisters in Crime to support women writers and has long been active in social justice work in Chicago. In addition to the Warshawski series, she has written stand-alone novels, short story collections, and a memoir, Writing in an Age of Silence. She lives with her beloved Golden Retriever.
