After burying her philandering father, destiny (or more likely her meddling mother) comes in the form of a decrepit building and a desperate seller. The deal is too good to be true, but Dee, down on her luck and desperate, buys it and opens up Harper River's first salon and spa, angering her competition and putting Dee square in the face of adversity.

When a body turns up after receiving one of Dee's signature services, the police and the community initially blame her proprietary haircare formulations as the culprit. But Dee didn't survive growing up in Harper River only to crumple under the weight of her neighbors' judgment. She makes it her mission to find out who or what was responsible for her client's death and to clear her own name.

To her shock, Dee discovers dark secrets lurking in the shadows of Harper River and they aren't too keen on being uncovered.
