A timeless fjord. A legendary dragon. An ancient cult known as the Smoke Breathers.
At the edge of the world, people in the town of Lake Home are being burned alive. A nearby village and hamlet have also been put to the torch with all their occupants trapped inside.
Calec and Serileen hunt the merchant who fled, and they are pulled into the dark events centered around the lake and its lost creature. They uncover conflicting beliefs about the people living in this forsaken town, the cult beyond, and the dragons of old.
As some of the townspeople hunt the dragon and others worship it, the number of victims rise until no one is safe. Serileen pursues the evasive merchant up the high road to the burned hamlet while Calec must find the cause of the burnings before the dragon lurking in the waters incinerates all of Lake Home.
But the flames will come for Calec, and he will burn.
Note: Each Calec Horror Mystery is a complete story without a cliffhanger ending, but there are some secondary questions that continue throughout the series. These stories can be read and enjoyed in any order.
