Philip C. Quaintrell is a fantasy author who started his career as an emergency room nurse. He lives in Cheshire, England with his wife and two children. He still finds time between naps and wiping snot off his clothes to remain a movie aficionado and comic book connoisseur, and is hoping this is still just the beginning.

10 Questions with Philip C. Quaintrell
1

For those unfamiliar with your style & genre, how would you describe your writing?

My writing is very character driven. I don't plot out my books so much as come up with a catalyst that gives everyone their starting point. From there, I let the characters make their choices and I simply follow through with the consequences.

2

Where did you grow up and did this location influence your writing in any way?

I grew up, and still live, in England, the land of Tolkien and the environment that inspired his writing. England has an ancient feel to it given its thousands of years of history and, at times, I have found this to be a great environment to foster ideas.

3

What kind of reader were you as a child?

A bad one. I didn't start reading books until I was about 15. Got a lot of catching up to do now!

4

If you could write like any other author, who would it be and why?

I'm lucky enough to call Christopher Ruocchio a friend and inspiration. I find his writing style utterly captivating, leading me to send messages to Christopher asking him to be a worse writer.

5

Who are your top 5 favorite authors?

R.A Salvatore/ James Luceno/ Christopher Ruocchi/ Chris Wooding/ Robert Kirkman

6

What is one book you repeatedly gift?

Retribution Falls all day long!

7

Of all the characters you've penned, who has been most influenced by your personal story?

Absolutely none! I am way too boring to incorporate anything from my life into my characters!

8

What is your favorite book that you've written?

A Clash of Fates

9

Describe your writing space.

My office is always tidy - I can't write in a mess. I have paintings and posters from my world, including my first hand drawn map. I've got two enormous bookcases with a ladder because I need to put my lego up high where small hands can't break them.

10

And finally, what's your ideal reading nook?

Easy! Hammock. Beach. The sound of waves.
