Mary Daheim (1937–2022) was an American author best known for her long-running mystery series. After working as a journalist in Washington state, she published her first novel in 1983 and soon shifted from historical romance to the mysteries she loved. She wrote the popular Bed & Breakfast series featuring Judith McMonigle Flynn and the Alpine series starring editor Emma Lord, which revived the real-life town of Alpine on the page. Her debut mystery, Just Desserts, earned an Agatha Award nomination, and she was later inducted into the University of Washington Communications Alumni Hall of Fame.
