Publisher Description

A search for a renegade wolf leads Bruno to make a grisly discovery in this thrilling installment of Bruno, Chief of Police.

When Bruno starts receiving panicked reports from farmers about missing livestock and claims of a rabid wolf spotted in town, he’s on the case. But even after he locates the animal, Parisian officials are concerned that the sickness has spread, so they send famed wolf scientist Geraldine to help Bruno microchip the rest of the pack. Bruno can’t help but notice Geraldine’s wit and beauty—as well as her devotion to nature—but he has little time to introduce her to the splendid vistas of the Perigord, much less cook her a nice meal.

They discover that the wolves have made their home at the site of a new project planned by a businessman named Toby who wants to create what he calls, "The Garden of Extraordinary Plants," a kind of Green Disneyland, which will feature a rare collection of carnivorous flora and a Mars garden project, in association with the European Space Agency. Toby isn’t pleased about the wolves’ presence on his land, but together the team manages to trap the last wolf—and that’s where Bruno finds two skeletons, missing both their heads and their fingertips, caught in the roots of a fallen tree.

Does the eccentric Toby have something to do with it? Or is this the missing puzzle piece to a much older, darker mystery, that could stretch as far back as the 1960s? Rest assured, Bruno will dig up the truth, all while serving the best spreads—think baguettes, brie, pâté, fresh "black diamond" truffles—in the most beautiful hidden spots of the Dordogne.
