10 Questions with Liz Tomforde
1

For those unfamiliar with your style & genre, how would you describe your writing?

I write contemporary, sports romance novels filled with undeniable chemistry, quick banter, and a healthy dash of spice.

2

Where did you grow up and did this location influence your writing in any way?

I grew up in Sonoma County, California. I used to work as a flight attendant and traveled to Chicago often. Chicago is one of my favorite cities, which is why I based my first book series there. My next series will be based in Northern California, and I’m so excited for readers to discover all the things I love about where I’m from.

3

What kind of reader were you as a child?

The first book that had me obsessed with reading as a hobby was The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants. It was told from four different points of view of four different friends, with one of the main characters having a somewhat romantic storyline. I remember being so eager to get back to her POV, just so I could follow the romance!

4

For readers new to your work, what title would you recommend?

The Windy City Series includes 5 interconnected books, so if readers are looking for a series, I’d recommend starting from the beginning with Mile High. But if readers are looking for a standalone, my next book, In Her Own League (2026), is a Windy City Series spinoff that can be read as a standalone.

5

Who are your top 5 favorite authors?

There are so many amazing authors out there, and more keep coming on the scene! A few of my favorites include S.J. Tilly, Laura Pavlov, and Devney Perry.

6

What is one book you repeatedly gift?

Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

7

Of all the characters you've penned, who has been most influenced by your personal story?

Each of my characters carry pieces of me. The female main character in my debut novel, Mile High, shared my same profession and her feelings about her body image were pulled from my own life experiences. In Caught Up, Miller’s burn out and work pressures were influenced by how I was feeling in my own career at the time. And Hallie, the main female character in Rewind It Back, was the caretaker for a sick parent, which is influenced by my own life as well.

8

What is your favorite indie bookstore?

So many to name! I live in Sacramento, so I love working with Capital Books. My first book series is set in Chicago, so The Last Chapter Bookstore has a special place in my heart. I also love The Ripped Bodice - both in Los Angeles and Brooklyn. I am a fairly new author so I know there are so many indie bookstores for me to still discover. I went on my first book tour in March 2025 and loved getting to partner with indie bookstores on a few of my tour stops. I look forward to doing more of that on future book tours!

9

Describe your writing space.

My writing space changes a lot. I started writing while I was working as a flight attendant for a professional hockey team, so most of my first two books were written in hotel rooms and on flights. Now, I find it easiest to write at a coffee shop or in my backyard.

10

And finally, what's your ideal reading nook?

In a recliner, cuddled under a comfy blanket, with my dog, Luke, close by.
