Josephine Tey (1896–1952) was the pen name of Scottish author Elizabeth Mackintosh, celebrated for her contribution to the Golden Age of detective fiction. Born in Inverness, Scotland, she initially pursued a career in education before turning to writing. Tey's works include a series of mystery novels featuring Inspector Alan Grant, with her most famous book, The Daughter of Time (1951), exploring the historical mystery of King Richard III and the Princes in the Tower.
In addition to her crime novels, she wrote plays under the pseudonym Gordon Daviot, achieving theatrical success with Richard of Bordeaux (1932). Known for her keen psychological insights and unconventional narratives, Tey remains a revered figure in crime and historical fiction. Her work continues to influence modern mystery writers and captivate readers worldwide.
