John Steinbeck (1902–1968) was an American author best known for his powerful novels exploring social issues, such as The Grapes of Wrath, which won the Pulitzer Prize, Of Mice and Men, and East of Eden. His works often focused on the struggles of the working class, exploring themes of poverty, resilience, and human dignity. In 1962, Steinbeck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his realistic and imaginative storytelling.
