A string of brutal killings rocks Oslo, each crime echoing a scene from a classic movie. When newly minted homicide investigator Ole Fauke realizes that the victims—an actress, a contractor, a loan shark—are all linked to a long-abandoned film project, he turns to veteran detective Harry Hole for guidance. Together, the two men uncover a buried past of ambition, betrayal, and obsession.

At the center lies Final Cut, a movie that was never completed, but which left deep scars on the tight-knit creative circle involved in the project. As the killer raises the stakes, staging each increasingly brutal death with cinematic precision, Harry and Oleg must untangle a web of old rivalries and hidden secrets before the final scene unspools. But in a case built on duplicity and illusion, there are no happy endings … and the camera may still be rolling.
