James Salter (1925-2015) was an award-winning American author celebrated for his elegant prose and unflinching exploration of desire, memory, and the human condition. A graduate of West Point and former fighter pilot, Salter brought a lyrical precision to his writing that spanned novels, short stories, memoir, and screenplays. He authored numerous books, including Dusk, which won the 1989 PEN/Faulkner Award, and Last Night, which won the Rea Award for the Short Story and the PEN/Malamud Award; and Life Is Meals: A Food Lover’s Book of Days, written with his wife, Kay Salter.
