Dorothy Dunnett (1923–2001) was a Scottish novelist best known for her richly researched and intricately plotted works of historical fiction. She achieved international acclaim with her Lymond Chronicles, a six-volume series set in the 16th century that follows the exploits of the adventurer Francis Crawford of Lymond. She later expanded her historical canvas with The House of Niccolò, an eight-volume prequel series set in the 15th century.
