Colleen McCullough (1937–2015) was an Australian author and neuroscientist best known for her international bestseller The Thorn Birds. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked in hospitals in Australia and the UK and later conducted neurological research at Yale Medical School. She went on to publish numerous bestselling novels and spent her later years living on Norfolk Island in the South Pacific.
