Legatus Sedarious Kull is in custody. His fate is sealed. Until he makes an offer that changes everything.
Pelegrin Hale and Orelia Pendaline have their arch nemesis, Sedarious Kull, in plasma binders and dead to rights. But when Kull offers them a way to rescue more excreants in the Imperium sector while also getting revenge on the Supreme and Qweelin Mink, they at least pause to consider their options.
However, when Kull threatens to murder Hale's former colleague, Hale and Orelia must release their nemesis. The situation reaches fever pitch when Sillix discovers the prisoner's presence. It's all anyone can to do to keep the assassin from slaying Kull. And then it's up to Rim Fellows to see the Stratus commander safely on his way. But not before taking out some insurance.
With Kull in the wind, the Valorious rebels are forced to make new plans. Hale must seek out the sage Pi Tae to master his newfound abilities. Meanwhile, Orelia decides to return to the planet that almost got her killed.
Will Orelia be able to secure enough weapons and transportation to free more refugees? Can Hale survive the dangerous training that awaits him? Or will Kull intervene and strike down the rebel cause before it has a chance to grow?
