The arrival of the National Spell Championships brings out High Priestess Limpet's competitive side. Emma is forced to practice like her life depends on it and—judging from the menacing look in Limpet's eye—that just might be the case. Unfortunately, Emma is disqualified for not being a witch, but that comes in handy when one of the best casters on a rival team is found dead and Emma is tasked with quietly finding the killer.

In the meantime, Emma's demigod father is back in town and determined to teach Diana the old ways. Emma wants her daughter toppling blocks, not buildings, and lays down the law with dear old dad, which goes over like holy water in a vampire's bath. With far more than a competition at stake, Spellbound's favorite sorceress is up to her neck in magical trouble.
