Amitav Ghosh is an award-winning Indian author whose work bridges history, fiction, and global issues. Born in Calcutta and educated in Delhi and Oxford, he is best known for The Ibis Trilogy, which began with the Booker Prize–shortlisted Sea of Poppies. His nonfiction book The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable has been widely recognized for its urgent exploration of literature and the climate crisis. Translated into more than thirty languages, Ghosh has received numerous honors, including the Jnanpith Award, the Padma Shri, and the Erasmus Prize.
