The attractive Lily Margrave is not persuaded that Sir Reuben Astwell's murder requires the involvement of Hercule Poirot. Nonetheless, she has come to meet Hercule Poirot at Lady Astwell's request to discuss what happened ten days ago in the Tower Room and how the victim's nephew, Charles Leverson, came to be accused of the murder.
Margrave conveys Lady Astwell's request for Poirot to go to the prestigious Mon Repos estate and see if he can uncover any information. The family is initially moved by Poirot's fervent search for the truth about what happened to Sir Astwell, but eventually they find it difficult to stomach his insistence on investigating everywhere.
